Embossed cards

Embossing is the process of creating a raised image in the cardboard.

This is achieved by using a metal die (female) and a counter die (male) that fit together and squeeze the fibers of the substrate.

Embossing involves a separate stage in the production process, after printing and laminating.

  • Handy Hint 1: Embossing is suited to larger objects like logos and large type. Small type and detail will not work. If embossing is not suitable for your design we recommend spot UV cards as a excellent solution.

    Handy Hint 2: Artwork with hi ink saturation  may not suitable for embossing as lamination may lift when embossed. Lighter ink backgrounds and white is best for this process.

    Handy Hint 3: Finish artwork in illustrator. eg place photos into illustrator from Photoshop (please embed) and do type in illustrator. Set embossed areas as k100 on a separate page.
